Part Two :
I have confession to make. Well, it’s kind of a confession…we got up at 3am today so that we could make it to Chelsea Bagels to meet Richard a little before 7am. And guess who was there, rolling his walker around asking people if they knew he was an author? His eyes lit up when I showed him his book.
And then I asked him what his story was.
And he told me that he wanted others to know just how much Jesus loves them.
But I said …No, no, the real story behind your poetry.
Wait – let me explain. I ordered his book on Amazon and got it the next day. And I read it. And there was a lot of pain and a heartache. And I knew there was some deep hurt in his background. But then there was also a lot of hope! And I knew that part was Jesus.
So anyway, back to my story. He shared with me that he has several learning disabilities and writing never came easy to him. But one day he met a girl named Stephanie. She was the pastors daughter at a ministry that he worked for and she encouraged him to write poetry. And so he did. And writing after writing, he would take poems to her and she would talk to him about them. And she encouraged him along the way.
Every poem is about Jesus. Richard speaks about Jesus as one would speak about a treasured friend. I could not resist asking him to sign my copy of his book. Y’all… seriously…His disability came through in his signature, but his love for Jesus just melted my heart!
If you’re curious and enjoy poetry, search up Drinking Living Water on Amazon. It’ll pop right up.
