Back At It

My goodness, I’m fickle! It’s 2024 and I’m still talking about the perils of social media. And stepping away… anyway, about 4 weeks ago, I asked God what I should do to grow closer to Him and He very clearly said… get off social media.

Let me give you a teeny bit of my backstory. In October of 2022, I tried my hand at social selling. And because of my job, I was constantly on Instagram. And it became habit.

Almost instantly.

The more I searched and scrolled, the more I was hooked. And the more I justified it because it was “my job”. I scrolled all the time under the guise of it being “my job”. But I wasn’t really working. I was mindlessly scrolling. Sure, I’d see things or people I wanted to reach out to here and there, but for the most part it was nothing more than a massive distraction.

I gave that job a go for one year and then I left the company. I am not a salesperson. I’m way too relational for that kind of a job. (And now I’m doing something I love, but more on that later!)

But I didn’t give up Instagram. That wasn’t part of the “deal”.

So I scrolled.

And scrolled.

And scrolled.

Until March 30. That’s the day God told me to get off social media. And I did. Immediately. No posts of “Hey, I’m taking a break…”. I just stopped posting and scrolling.

And it was freeing.

And eye opening.

And it has been amazing!

Does anyone really care that you’re not going to post anymore? Nope. That’s the cold, hard truth. And to know me is to know I speak the truth. In the month or so that I’ve been off social media, exactly 3 people have reached out.

Three.

Y’all… that’s humbling when you *think* you have thousands of followers and that you are way more important than you actually are!

So anyway, this blog will be my posting platform from now on. If you want to “hear” what I’m learning, feel free to sign up for email alerts and you’ll get a glimpse into my walk with the Lord and learning about His heart. It’s deeper than my mind can fathom!

And, there may be a few photos along the way…

    1. I love the connectedness we share! And yes, I am taking a very long break! Really sitting in what the Lord wants me to learn as well as getting back to building relationships, face-to-face! But more on that later…
