HAPPY 2019!!! (3 weeks in…)
This year I have decided to unplug from all forms of social media for the year. Which means that all 2 of you reading this are doing so because you are subscribed and not because I posted it on any form of social media. HAHAHA!!! I was reading through last year and I thought to myself, “Man, I’m kinda good at this writing thing.” Not in a prideful sort of way, but I impressed myself. YESSSSSS!
Now, unplugging this year means no posting of any of the special events that will happen this year including the girls’ senior prom pics or graduation or college drop off or the extensive traveling my husband and I want to do once we are *gulp*…. EMPTY NESTERS! WHAT THE HECK??? Anyway, I digress. So, with unplugging comes a lot of “free” time that I forgot I had! Honestly, I started baking again (which I should be doing right now b/c there are mostly brown bananas staring me in the face, but I feel like blogging.) and I really amped up my prayer life. And I’m doing a Bible study with a friend right now. And I’m investing in the people in front of me. RIGHT in front of me. Not “in front” of me on a computer screen. And ya know what? IT FEELS REALLY GOOD!!! It feels good not to be a slave to my phone (although I think I always will be to a point because I text like crazy). But not a slave to social media. It’s freeing. I feel like a new woman. All because I listened when God told me to unplug and pay more attention to Him and to others. I truly believe it was a god to me. And I didn’t make it a god purposefully. It slowly faded into an addiction of sorts. Thank you Casting Crowns for THAT song!!
So I challenge you. Check out your screen time app. You may shock yourself as to how much time you waste on social media. (social networking on my phone equals texting… just so ya know!)

And honestly, literally out of the 500+ “friends” that I have on Facebook, 3 people have texted me and told me that they miss me on social media. THREE! I think we think people want to know what we are doing, but truly, no one really cares. And the ones that do care are the ones that should be right in front of you anyway. The ones you should give 100% of your attention to…Not 75%…or 50% because you are too focused on YOUR SCREEN, but 100% of you should be focused on them. And God. And that’s about it…. and all of this said is truly in my humble opinion.
So, I think I shall pick up blogging again. It feels good to type out how I feel and what I think. And I’ve been taking notes of some things God has been showing me since I unplugged. Maybe I’ll share them with my 2 faithful followers! LOL!!
Looking forward to an unplugged year with you…
