Man in the Middle

I was doing a small devotion yesterday morning when something struck me. I’d never seen it before. Maybe I’m not the only one?

Three people hung on crosses the day that Jesus died. Now I’ve heard the story hundreds of times. The main focus is always Jesus. And then we typically also see the guy who repented last minute. But yesterday, I saw something else. Check it out!

Three crosses…three men hanging…two different outcomes.

Jesus Himself was on one cross. Hung for nothing He did, yet He willingly hung there because of every sin every single person had done, was doing or would do.

One who saw his own actions as wrong, realized who Jesus actually was and asked Him for forgiveness. He was promised that “today you will be with Me in paradise.”

And the other who flung insults, nasty words and was angry at his situation. Not taking responsibility for his own actions and blaming everyone around him. He died alone and angry.

And it hit me… that is exactly how life is today. Two of those three crosses represent all of humanity today –

First are the people who see their need for the Man in the Middle. They are filled with sorrow for the things they’ve done and recognize that they need forgiveness. And Him.

Second are those who don’t see their need for the Man in the Middle. They have no regrets and feel there is no need for salvation. They can do it on their own.

Sadly, the ones who don’t care, are the ones who throw insults around and die frustrated and angry. They don’t take responsibility for their own actions and recognize their desperate need for a Savior. They will spend eternity wishing they had met the Man in the Middle.

The ones who trust the Man in the Middle, take responsibility for their own actions, look to Him for salvation will spend eternity worshipping and praising the One who saved their soul.

Three crosses.

One Savior.

Two choices.

Which choice will you make today…before it’s too late?

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
